EMDR therapy is not a traditional talking cure. It is a structured, physiological intervention that alters how your brain stores traumatic or distressing memories. During a virtual EMDR session, we utilize precise visual, auditory, or tactile bilateral stimulation (BLS) patterns across your screen. As your attention shifts back and forth, it stimulates alternating hemispheres of your brain—resembling the rapid eye movement (REM) sleep cycle. This process unlocks the frozen memory and transfers it to the cortex, allowing it to be integrated as an adaptive, historic event. The memory stays intact, but the overwhelming emotional, physical charge is permanently stripped away.
